Removal of diethyltoluamide, paracetamol, caffeine and triclosan from natural water by photo-Fenton process using powdered zero-valent iron

چکیده

The removal of four pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), namely diethyltoluamide (DEET), paracetamol (PAR), caffeine (CAF) triclosan (TCS) (at a spiked concentration 25 μg/L), from natural water using the photo (UVC)-Fenton (powdered zero-valent iron, pZVI) process was investigated. results show that molar ratio H2O2/pZVI 2.0, pZVI 22.4 mg/L pH 3.0 maximised target compounds at 71.1%, 100%, 64.2% 87.1%, for DEET, PAR, CAF TCS, respectively, after 30 min in Fenton (pZVI) process. When this coupled with UVC radiation, 29.6%, 80.3%, 3.1% 88.4% were removed within first minute, 99.0%, 99.5% min. pseudo first-order kinetic model best fitted degradation data PAR (1–20 min); because 80% TCS degraded minutes, it is suggested to explore kinetics during initial period. Characterisations photo-Fenton indicated corrosion surface iron powder presence oxides hydroxides. Lower removals nitrate (35–50%), phosphate (<35%) total organic carbon (TOC, <18%) observed, which may be attributed small dosage used. Results investigation has potential efficient cost-effective PPCPs.

In field arsenic removal from natural water by zero-valent iron assisted by solar radiation.

An in situ arsenic removal method applicable to highly contaminated water is presented. The method is based in the use of steel wool, lemon juice and solar radiation. The method was evaluated using water from the Camarones River, Atacama Desert in northern Chile, in which the arsenic concentration ranges between 1000 and 1300 microg L(-1). Response surface method analysis was used to optimize t...

Removal of Acid Red 18 dye from Aqueous Solutions Using Nanoscale Zero-Valent Iron

Background and Purpose:Organic dyes with a complex structure are often toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, non-biodegradation and stable in the environment and if released to the environment without treatment can endanger the environment and human health. The aim was to evaluate the performance nanoscalezero-valent iron (NZVI) in the removal of dye acid red 18 (AR18) from aqueous solutions. Materia...

High-level arsenite removal from groundwater by zero-valent iron.

The objectives of this study were to conduct batch and column studies to (i) assess the effectiveness of zero-valent iron for arsenic remediation in groundwater, (ii) determine removal mechanisms of arsenic, and (iii) evaluate implications of these processes with regard to the stability of arsenic and long-term remedial performance of the permeable reactive barrier (PRB) technology. A high conc...

Processes of Removing Zinc from Water using Zero-Valent Iron

Zero-valent iron has received considerable attention for its potential application in the removal of heavy metals from water. This paper considers the possibility of removal of zinc ions from water by causing precipitates to form on the surface of iron. The chemical states and the atomic concentrations of solids which have formed on the surface of zero-valent iron as well as the type of the dep...
